Robust Course Offerings

Our program focuses on tone production, tempo maintenance, rhythm, learning fingerings and intonation. The Beginning Band performs three concerts per year.

This is a further development of skills through the performance of literature by popular composers. The Intermediate Band performs three times a year.

A focus on the complete musical development of each student through preparation of literature for the developing concert band. Members perform three home concerts per year and also performs at the ISSMA Organization Contest.

This ensemble is typically for students in grade 6. Students learn the basics of singing, multiple music styles, music literacy and more. There are performance requirements each semester.

Concert Choir includes grades 7 and 8. Members of this ensemble will learn fundamental and advanced concepts of singing, music literacy and music theory. There are multiple performances throughout the year expected of ensemble members.

78 Edition is an auditioned competitive ensemble that consists of grades 6, 7 and 8. Auditions occur during the previous spring semester. Members of the ensemble are to be among the best Memorial Park offers. Attitudes and grades matter! This ensemble includes heavy time commitment throughout the school year but promises great fun! Attendance at after-school rehearsals is required. 

This class consists of only 6th graders who have never played an instrument before. Students will learn all of the fundamentals of the string instrument such as the parts of the instrument, bowing, plucking, and fingering. They will also learn how to read music for their instrument. This class uses a combination of the Essential elements 2000 book and the Suzuki method of teaching. This group will have two performances.

This class is for a student who has been playing for 1 – 4 years. Students who are in grades 6th, 7th, & 8th can be in this class. Students will continue to learn techniques, scales, & methods to enhance their playing. Students will learn 4 – 6 pieces of music. This group will have two performances.

In order to be in this class a student must have the director’s permission. This class is for students who have been playing for over 4 years. Students will learn over 10 selections of music. These students will perfect their string skills, and have many performances in and out of school.

In 2D Art, students will gain experience in a wide range of mediums from traditional to digital! In visual arts class, students will explore a variety of art media including but not limited to pencil drawing, watercolor painting and acrylic painting.

Our 3D art lab is equipped with 22 pottery wheels, allowing for our students' vision to come to life! Students will apply the concepts of craftsmanship and composition while turning basic shapes into complex forms, enabling them to draw or create whatever they see.

Students in Introduction to Engineering Technology get to build everything from bird houses to working musical instruments, including working guitars and volins. This class has true STEAM focus and combines math, technology and music into one hands-on experience!

This class is structured for students who are interested in the engineering and design process.  Students will participate in various hands-on activities and projects, while being introduced to how to work individually and collaboratively, focusing on “how to” and “DIY” skills, as a means of readying students for the real world.  Through students’ participation in projects and competitions, they will utilize various tools and technologies, such as 3D printing, CNC cutting and engraving, wood and metal working, and even sewing machines, giving students a well-rounded and diverse hands-on curriculum.

Introduction to Computer Science focuses on the fundamental skills of computer coding. Students will program Ozobots and Spyros and as well basic robotics experiences.

This course aims to develop computational thinking and build student excitement about computing. Through the use of Code.org, Spheros, Lego Spike and other various technologies, students will have hands on opportunities to learn programming, coding, website design, and game development.  

Introduction to Spanish is meant to serve as an overview of the Spanish language and culture. Students learn Spanish words and phrases through structred lessons as well as  games and activites. Any student interested in further developing their Spanish language skills can do so in 7^th and 8^th grade for high school credit. 

Students will read, write, speak and listen in the target language. Students will learn about the geography, history and culture of the Hispanic-speaking- world. Students have the opportunity to receive high school credit after successfully completing Spanish I & II.
